Warm the Soles 2023: Making a Difference, One Pair of Shoes at a Time
By Wasatch Peaks on Jan 12, 2024 3:37:25 PM
Warm the Soles 2023
Thank you to all our generous members who contributed to our heartwarming Warm the Soles campaign this year! Your support has made a tremendous difference in the lives of countless children right here in our community, specifically benefiting elementary students in the Ogden and Weber School Districts.
Throughout the year, we collaborate closely with our local schools to identify the little ones who are in dire need of new shoes. Our dedicated team, including teachers, janitors, and other staff members, keep a vigilant eye out for worn-out shoes and those precious kids who could use a much-needed upgrade to their footwear.
By providing these deserving children with a pair of cozy and comfortable shoes, we not only help them stay warm during the cold winter months but also boost their confidence and self-esteem. It’s amazing how a small act of can have a profound impact on a child’s life. Thank you once again for being an integral part of this incredible campaign and for helping us create a brighter future for the children in our community.
Business Members Warm the Soles 2023
Warm the Soles is a heartwarming initiative that thrives on the generosity of our members and businesses, as well as the unwavering dedication of our employees. We are happy to announce that this year we were able to beat our goal and raised $47,399.00! Thanks to your incredible support, we were able to provide 1,100 pair of shoes to children in need across 12 local elementary schools.

President's Message - January 2024
By Wasatch Peaks on Jan 12, 2024 3:08:59 PM
I want to congratulate everyone on making it through 2023 and wish you all a happy and prosperous 2024. Last year was quite the rollercoaster ride. We saw interest rates continue to climb during the first half of the year. The Prime interest rate currently sits at 8.50%...a full 5% higher than in March of 2022. This unprecedented increase was in response to high inflation brought on by pent up demand and supply chain issues caused in large part by the pandemic. All of us have felt the sting of inflation when shopping for just about anything. Inflation has come down to just over 3% in November, prompting the Federal Reserve Board to pause interest rate hikes and to actually start talking about rate cuts in 2024.

Cd Laddering
By Wasatch Peaks on Oct 3, 2023 8:58:18 AM
Certificates of Deposit (CDs) have been a longtime, popular investment banking tool for individuals seeking a safe and stable place for their funds. Their credit union counterparts, share certificates, are the same type of product, so don’t let the terminology differences trouble you. They offer a fixed earnings rate over a specified period (term), and provide a reliable source of income. However, traditional certificates often lack flexibility since investors must commit their funds for the entire term. This is where certificate ladders come in.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE: APRIL 2023
By Wasatch Peaks on Apr 6, 2023 4:42:13 PM
We finally had a year with little impact from COVID-19 in 2022, but the year was not without its challenges. Towards the end of 2021, inflation started to climb and reached numbers we hadn’t seen in decades. This trend continued into 2022 and the year-over-year inflation rate peaked at 9.1% in June, the highest rate since 1981. In response to these inflation numbers, the Fed began raising interest rates in March and kept right on raising them throughout the year. We started 2022 with a Prime Interest Rate of 3.25% and ended the year at 7.50%.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE: JANUARY 2023
By Wasatch Peaks on Jan 17, 2023 10:23:24 AM
Happy New Year to everyone reading this article. Each new year brings with it a little baggage from the year before, but also the hope for better days ahead. This year brings with it some economic baggage from 2022, in the form of high inflation and rising interest rates. These two factors have put a squeeze on everyone’s finances. A dollar doesn’t go as far as it did a year ago and if you borrow a dollar, it’s going to cost you more in interest than it has in over a decade. The U.S. inflation rate is 7.1%, as of November, which is way too high. This percentage has come down from its high of 9.1% last May but is still more than triple the 2% target rate of inflation. The prime interest rate, which is the underlying index for most credit cards, home equity, auto, and personal loans, is currently 7.5%...the highest it’s been since October 2007. This prime interest rate was at or below 5.5% for over fourteen years from 2008 to 2022.

President's Message: November 2022
By Wasatch Peaks on Nov 4, 2022 5:13:42 PM
I’d like to talk a little about interest rates in this article. As you are all painfully aware, interest rates are on the rise. Interest rates are the expense associated with borrowing money. When interest rates are low, borrowing and the associated spending by consumers and businesses increase. When demand for products and services exceed supply, prices rise. The measure of these rising prices is called inflation. A little inflation is good. When prices are going up, people want to buy now rather than pay more later. This increases demand, resulting in business expansion and higher employment. Too much inflation, however, can be disastrous. The current inflation rate in the US is 8.3% and it has been above 6.0% for the past year.

President's Message: 2020 Resiliency
By Wasatch Peaks on Jul 1, 2020 11:37:47 AM
It’s hard to summarize 2020 in just a few words. I don’t think it is hyperbole to say that our lives have been changed forever due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here at Wasatch Peaks, we have continued providing critical financial services for our members while protecting them and our employees from the spread of this virus. Members have been asked to primarily use our drive through lanes and electronic services. Our employees have been asked to work remotely and to wear masks and sanitize their work areas when at work… this truly is a team effort.

By Wasatch Peaks on Mar 31, 2020 10:27:48 AM
Wasatch Peaks Credit Union is committed to the health and safety of our members, employees, and volunteers. Never has this commitment been more important than during the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Over the past month, we have taken the necessary steps to continue providing critical financial services to our members, while limiting the potential spread of the coronavirus. We have temporarily closed our branches inside of the McKay-Dee Hospital and the Browning Headquarters in Mountain Green. In addition, we have closed the lobbies in our five full-service branches to help protect our employees and members. We continue to offer full services to our members through the drive-thru lanes at our branches, through our Member Service Center at 801-627-8700, and through our Online Banking at wasatchpeaks.com and our Mobile Banking apps. These electronic services provide 24/7 account access, along with the ability to transfer money, deposit checks, and apply for loans.

President's Message: The Value of A HELOC
By Wasatch Peaks on Apr 1, 2019 9:00:00 AM
What is a Home Equity Line of Credit? The equity of a home is the difference of the home’s actual value and how much the homeowner owes on the mortgage. A Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) acts like a second mortgage and people can use the loan proceeds for a variety of different needs. This is a normal line of credit that is similar to a credit card, where you can borrow money as needed up to a certain limit. Most of the time, the loan proceeds are used for major expenses, like home improvement, debt consolidation, and education. However, it is important to remember that the lender can foreclose on the home if the loan is not paid back, since the collateral for a HELOC loan is the home.

Some people tackle the highest interest rate first while others will start with the lowest balance. It’s your choice, just remember that with every debt you pay off you free up money that can help you tackle the next one.

President's Message: Being Financially Secure
By Wasatch Peaks on Sep 27, 2018 5:27:28 PM
We need to save because we do not know what the future has in store for us. Saving money can help in times of emergency, and if you have the ability to save a lot of money you can become financially secure. If you do not have savings and/or investments, there are risks that you might encounter. For instance, if you do not have enough money to cover an emergency automobile problem then you might have to take out a loan that a savings account might have covered. Interest is your friend when saving money ,but becomes your enemy when you have to get a loan. Loans are as Josh Billings said, “Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.”
