    President's Message: 2020 Resiliency

By Wasatch Peaks on Jul 1, 2020 11:37:47 AM

It’s hard to summarize 2020 in just a few words. I don’t think it is hyperbole to say that our lives have been changed forever due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here at Wasatch Peaks, we have continued providing critical financial services for our members while protecting them and our employees from the spread of this virus. Members have been asked to primarily use our drive through lanes and electronic services. Our employees have been asked to work remotely and to wear masks and sanitize their work areas when at work… this truly is a team effort.

The summer months are usually full of city celebrations and parades, and Wasatch Peaks has always been a part of these events. Unfortunately, most cities have cancelled their summer events and so we will miss seeing all of you along the parade routes. We have also had to cancel our community shred events and summer member appreciation party. We love seeing all of you at these events and summer just won’t be the same without them.

It’s hard to come up with a silver lining when it comes to the pandemic, but I have been impressed with the resiliency of our members and employees during this crisis. As I mentioned, we have stayed open and fully operational throughout the pandemic, which has required accommodations from all of us. We have continued to loan money to our members and to provide a safe place for our members to put their money during these uncertain times. We were heavily involved in the Payment Protection Plan of PPP loan program offered by the SBA. Through this program, we were able to provide local businesses with over $23 million worth of loans to cover payroll and other expenses while their operations were restricted due to COVID-19. These loans went out to over 300 businesses and helped protect the jobs of nearly 3,000 employees. I’m incredibly proud of our employees who worked so hard to make this happen.

I hope this newsletter finds you and your families safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. If we can help in any way, please let us know, we are all in this together. Just like our jingle says, “Wasatch Peaks will be here for you”!
